Trains from Kolkata to Berhampore and Murshidabad

The train is the usual way to reach Berhampore and Murshidabad from Kolkata. Two daily trains serve the line. The Hazarduari Express (13113 outbound, 13114 back) runs between Kolkata and Lalgola. The Bhagirathi Express (13103 outbound, 13104 back) runs between Sealdah and Lalgola. Both stop at Berhampore Court and Murshidabad.

The times below are timetable examples. Treat them as a planning guide and check the current timetable before you go. In the example, the ride takes about 3 hours 5 minutes to Berhampore Court and about 3 hours 20 minutes to Murshidabad. That is the train alone, without transfers or sightseeing, so a same-day return is a long day. Our page on Kolkata to Murshidabad tours compares ways to plan it.

Arrival times at Lalgola vary, which is why that row shows two values. The Hazarduari Express leaves from Kolkata station and the Bhagirathi Express from Sealdah. These are different stations, so do not assume your train leaves from Howrah. For most visitors, the morning Hazarduari Express is the better choice, because it reaches Berhampore Court in the morning with a full day ahead. The Bhagirathi Express arrives at night, so arrange your room before you arrive.

Kolkata to Berhampore train: stops and stations

Which station to choose for which sight.

Berhampore Court (BPC)

The stop for the city of Berhampore. It is the choice if you plan to stay in Berhampore. Toto and auto rides are the usual way to move around locally. See where to stay.

Cossimbazar (CSZ)

A stop at Cossimbazar was added on an experimental basis from 26 January 2026, with the Hazarduari Express at 10:05 outbound and 17:16 on the way back. Check whether it still runs before you plan around it.

Murshidabad (MBB)

The stop named for the historic city of the Nawabs. The Hazarduari Palace stands in Lalbagh, so ask locally about the last stretch. The palace and its museum are covered on the Hazarduari Palace page.

Plassey

Plassey (Palashi) has its own station on the Sealdah line. In the timetable example it lies at 146 rail-km from Kolkata, while Berhampore Court lies at 182, a difference of 36 rail-km. That is a rail figure, not a road distance. The battlefield is in Nadia district, and the Plassey page explains the visit.

Getting there by road, bus and air

Options if the train does not suit you.

The road to Berhampore is NH12, which older maps and signs may still call NH34. Buses run from Kolkata and other towns. Times and fares change, so ask at the stand on the day. Kolkata airport (CCU) is the nearest airport, about 195 km from Murshidabad. That is the figure for the whole journey, not a taxi fare or a road time, so allow generous time for the transfer.

Locally, Toto and auto rides are the normal way to move between sights. Organised tours often use non-air-conditioned Toto or auto for transfers. Check whether entry tickets and a guide are included, and budget for them if they are not. Khoshbagh lies on the far bank of the river, opposite Amaniganj, so ask locally how to cross before you head there.

Planning notes for 2026

  • After heavy rain in early September 2026, trains near New Farakka were cancelled or diverted because of soil erosion. Check the status of your train before you travel.
  • A repair project on the Berhampore bypass of NH12 was announced in September 2026. If you travel by road, allow extra time.
  • Avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, and follow local advice and any curfew notices.
